Intoxalock Ignition Interlock Devices Expand to Florida

With installation locations state-wide, Intoxalock is excited to begin providing service to Florida customers. Find the nearest ignition interlock installation locations in Florida.

May 23, 2016

DES MOINES, IA - Intoxalock, a national provider of ignition interlock devices, is now certified to install alcohol monitoring devices for customers in Florida. The State of Florida provided final approval to the Des Moines, IA based manufacturer, Intoxalock, in early May and makes Florida the 41st state in which Intoxalock is certified to provide approved ignition interlock devices. Intoxalock has already placed a network of over 50 authorized installation locations across the state of Florida and has locations available in each of Florida's 20 districts. Intoxalock is able to install ignition interlock devices for customers in Florida's most populated cities including Jacksonville, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Tallahassee, Tampa and Orlando. Intoxalock has over 1,800 installation locations nationwide.

"The Intoxalock Service Center network will be crucial to our growth and customer satisfaction in the State of Florida. Our Florida-based recruiting manager has worked with a number of high caliber locations to ensure Intoxalock customers can be served professionally from installation through removal of their interlock. Our approach to Service Center location remains customer focused with an effort to have quality locations within a reasonable distance of all Florida drivers," Kerry Keller, Vice President of Compliance and Field Operations, said.

A first-time DUI offender in Florida is required to complete a DUI School program before being allowed to apply for a hardship license. If required by the court, they may need to attend treatment and/or install an ignition interlock device.

Second-time DUI offenders must apply for their hardship license one year from their date of revocation. In addition to successful completion of a DUI School program and treatment (if required), second-time offenders will be required to install an ignition interlock device on all vehicles owned and driven for at least one year.

Third and subsequent DUI offenders will have to sit out a revocation period before becoming eligible for a hardship license. Among other things, an ignition interlock device will be required for a set period of time before the hardship license is granted.

Drunk driving offenders will receive a letter from the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle Department with orders to install an ignition interlock device. Immediately after installation, customers are asked to present the installation confirmation paperwork to the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to receive their hardship license.

Florida requires that all ignition interlock devices installed in the state have a camera as part of the technology. Intoxalock enters the market with an advanced technology device that not only includes the camera but also includes GPS and real-time reporting.

To use the Intoxalock ignition interlock device, a driver simply pushes a button, submits their breath sample and waits for the LED screen to display passed or failed. If the driver passes, they can start the vehicle and head to their destination. If a driver doesn't pass, they will be unable to start the car until a passing breath sample is provided. Intoxalock devices are primarily used by people legally required to install an ignition interlock device because of a drunk-driving violation. However, individuals and businesses are voluntarily installing car breathalyzer devices as a prevention method to guarantee sober driving.

About Intoxalock: Headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa, Intoxalock (https://www.Intoxalock.com) developed its state-of-the-art ignition interlock device (IID) in conjunction with researchers from Iowa State University. Recently celebrating their 23rd anniversary in the alcohol monitoring business, Intoxalock currently services clients that are legally required to install an IID or home alcohol monitoring unit in 41 states across the nation, in addition to voluntary clients in all other states. In the last ten years, the ignition interlock industry has grown three-fold and is expected to continue as drunk driving legislation strengthens.
