Immigrant Family from Republic of Congo Settles in Iowa | Intoxalock

DES MOINES, IA—July 25th, 2018— Each year, Iowa welcomes more than 220 uprooted families from across the globe through the work of the U.S Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI). In late July, Intoxalock worked with the USCRI in Des Moines to sponsor a refugee family from the Democratic Republic of Congo. The company-wide effort raised funds and provided furniture and necessities for the families’ apartments.  “One of our core values is to Inspire Positive Change and helping families during a turbulent time in their lives directly aligns with our work at Intoxalock,” said Kimberly Williams, Chief Executive Officer at Intoxalock. “A welcoming environment allows them to more quickly assimilate and focus on their future.”

With strong Iowa roots, Intoxalock employees recognized the need for help right in their own backyards. More than 60 employees worked to fund raise, collect goods and furnish apartments with furniture and groceries.

“Community and corporate support is greatly valued by our organization and the survivors we help,” said Carly Ross, director of the Des Moines USCRI. “We appreciate Intoxalock’s support and commitment to help this family.”

Earlier in the month, Intoxalock employees had the opportunity to hear the story of a refugee named Daniel Paul, who also relocated to the U.S. from the Democratic Republic of Congo. He shared his experience and provided cultural insight so that the employees of Intoxalock could prepare the most considerate and comforting arrival for the family.
