Our Story
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, approximately 32 people in the U.S. die in drunk driving crashes every day. In 2024 alone, almost 12,000 people died in alcohol-impaired driving traffic deaths. Drunk driving continues to be a major issue, for which prevention is the only solution.
Intoxalock was driven to become part of that solution from the company’s inception. With an eye toward creating an advanced ignition interlock device, we partnered with researchers at Iowa State University in 1988. Together, we developed our IID using cutting-edge alcohol-specific fuel cell technology that uses chemical interactions to detect alcohol in the breath with pinpoint precision. We were the first IID company to integrate this technology, which is now the ignition interlock industry standard.
Our passion for creating safer roads and supporting drivers in need continues. The Intoxalock team is constantly innovating to improve our product line, with new devices and technology designed to reach a wider audience and address more challenges associated with drunk and impaired driving. We’ve grown a lot over the years, but we always stay true to our core values and our ultimate goal: helping people convicted of a DUI regain driving privileges.
