What is the Intoxalock®?
The Intoxalock® is a state-of-the-art, alcohol specific,
breath alcohol ignition interlock device (BAIID). The
device is designed to prevent an individual from operating
a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

How does
the Intoxalock® work?
The unit is connected directly to the electrical system
of the vehicle. If the breath alcohol of the driver
is above a preset limit, the vehicle will not start.

How do
I operate the Intoxalock®?
Before a driver starts their vehicle, they will be
required to give a breath sample by blowing into the
mouthpiece of the unit.
The Intoxalock® will determine the amount of alcohol
in the driver's system (BAC). As long as the driver's
alcohol content is below the state's legal limit, the
vehicle will start. If the unit registers an alcohol
level above the preset limit, the vehicle will not start.
If this happens, the driver will be allowed to submit
another breath sample in a short period of time.
Additionally, states require that random checks be
performed on drivers.
This is accomplished by utilizing a feature called
the "rolling retest." The unit will randomly
generate a retest time as you are driving down the road.
At the point of retest, the driver will be required
to submit another breath sample to determine whether
or not they have started drinking after they have started
the vehicle. If the driver's breath alcohol goes above
the preset limit, the vehicle's horn will start honking.
This failure is designed to gain the attention of many
people including police officers.
Please be aware that under no circumstances does the
Intoxalock® have the ability to shut a vehicle off while
it is being operated. Pulling off the road and turning
off the vehicle will disengage the horn. The driver
is then safe, but may be unable to restart the vehicle
until they deliver a clean breath sample. <Top
How much
does it cost to have the Intoxalock®?
This is the question that people ask most. There are
pricing differences among various states. Please call
us directly to find out the fees associated with your
state's program. We can tell you that a DWI/DUI is expensive.
The additional cost of having an interlock installed
(approximately $2/day average) is a small price to pay
to maintain legal driving privileges, keep your job
and most importantly, eliminate the risk of obtaining
future drunk driving offenses. <Top
What
if your unit malfunctions?
Should the unit appear to be experiencing problems,
simply contact our customer service team at 877-777-5020.
Our staff is highly trained to diagnose potential problems
and can often resolve the problem over the telephone
and have you back on the road in short order. In the
rare instance when a unit does malfunction, we will
take every step necessary to minimize any inconvience
to you including replacing the malfunctioning unit with
a replacement unit that day or the next day depending
on your location. <Top
Can
I still drink?
In most cases, the answer is yes. The Intoxalock® will
record and log every breath sample where alcohol was
present. Because of this, alcohol should be consumed
in very limited amounts while operating a vehicle equipped
with the Intoxalock®. Our suggestion is that if you are
going to drink, please walk, take a cab or let someone
else drive. <Top
Where
can I get the Intoxalock® installed?
CST has contracted with Circuit City Inc. electronic
stores across the country to provide installation
and service at over 500 Circuit City Road Shops. Additionally,
CST contracts with new auto franchise dealers who
employ trained installation technicians. Please contact
us for information about the nearest
installation center . <Top
How
do I let the state know that I have an interlock installed?
When you have your Intoxalock® installed, you will receive
an "installation certificate" to present to
your state's regulatory agency. This verifies that the
device has been properly installed. <Top
Will
other people be able to drive the vehicle?
The answer is yes. We must warn you though that there
is no way of verifying that you were not the person
driving the vehicle. This means that you become responsible
for everything that the unit records. If another person
was driving the car you are still responsible for any
consequences that arise if the person was drinking.

How
noticeable is the Intoxalock®?
The handheld unit that the driver blows into is 5
inches long, 1 inch in depth and 3 inches wide. <Top
How
long does it take to get the Intoxalock® installed?
We generally require a minimum of three to seven days
notice to have a unit installed into a vehicle. This
time is necessary to process all of the paperwork
and to ship the device to the installation center.
When you arrive at the installation center, you will
need to allow one to three hours for the device to
be installed. <Top
