Intoxalock Ignition Interlock Devices Expand to Mississippi

New ignition interlock law requires all drunken driving offenders to install IID in order to continue to drive (CST)

      October 24, 2014

MISSISSIPPI – Intoxalock, a company that provides innovative technology with its alcohol monitoring devices, has expanded its focus to include Mississippi. The State of Mississippi provided approval to the Des Moines, IA based manufacturer, Consumer Safety Technology LLC (CST), in early October which marks the 40th state in which Intoxalock is now providing state approved ignition interlock devices (IID). The company has already strategically placed 22 authorized installation centers across the state with continued growth to come. This brings their locations to over 1,300 for the nation in total.

"We are especially excited to see how judges and prosecutors will embrace the optional advanced technology of eLERT, which adds the features of a camera, GPS monitoring and an opportunity to review user testing in real-time."

Carol VokesNational Director of Compliance for Intoxalock

A first-time DUI offender in Mississippi is required to fulfill a 90-day license suspension, second-time offender is one year and third-time offenders is three years. In order to continue driving or regain their license, one must obtain an ignition interlock restricted license that includes proof of installation for an IID on all vehicles. In some cases where a court order exists, offenders may also be required to install an IID that includes a camera. Mother Against Drunk Driving says that the new law in Mississippi is a key victory in its Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving, which is focused on passing similar legislation in all 50 states. Intoxalock enters the Mississippi market with both their Intoxalock IIDs device and their advance technology camera inclusive device, Intoxalock eLERT.

“Mississippi is a great addition to our business and we will begin installing both Legacy and eLERT devices in Mississippi immediately,” stated Carol Vokes, National Director of Compliance for Intoxalock. “We are especially excited to see how judges and prosecutors will embrace the optional advanced technology of eLERT, which adds the features of a camera, GPS monitoring and an opportunity to review user testing in real-time. We are also going to start sharing the advantages of our newest product eLERT24 which combines the advanced technology of the eLERT with 24-hour sobriety monitoring in one easy to use device.”

To use the Intoxalock ignition interlock device, a driver simply pushes a button, submits their breath sample and waits for the LED screen to display passed or failed. If the driver passes, they can start the car and head to their destination. If a driver doesn’t pass, they will be unable to start the car until a passing breath sample is provided. Intoxalock devices are primarily used by people legally required to have an ignition interlock device (IID) because of a drunk-driving violation. However, more and more individuals and businesses are voluntarily installing car breathalyzer devices as a way of preventing a drunk driving arrest or tragedy.
