Intoxalock Legacy Ignition Interlock Device
The Intoxalock Legacy is a state-of-the-art breath alcohol ignition interlock device (BAIID or IID) designed to minimize the opportunity of a driver operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
The Intoxalock is generally mandated by state statute for multiple DUI, DWI, OWI and many first time drunk driving offenses so offenders can temporarily obtain their driving privileges. However, many people also recognize the benefit to installing an ignition interlock in their vehicle, the vehicle of a loved one, or their fleet to prevent another drunk driving offense or worse.
The device works by requiring a breath sample prior to starting a vehicle. If the breath sample provided contains an alcohol level below the state specific level, the vehicle will be allowed to start. All states require additional breath samples after the vehicle has been started called Rolling Retest. If the driver feels unsafe submitting the breath sample while driving, they have time to pull over to safely submit the sample. If the sample is at or above the state limit, several things can happen; the horn may engage, the vehicles lights may flash, or the device may require service. Under no circumstances can the Intoxalock shut the vehicle off at any time.
The Intoxalock utilizes state-of-the-art fuel cell technology allowing for the highest level of accuracy and precision. It has been certified by an independent laboratory to meet or exceed all National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) standards.
